Removing Catsup and Tomato Stains

Removing Catsup and Tomato Stains

By the time your child is old enough to eat fries and other foods that you eat with catsup, you will a whole new set of stains to combat and remove from your baby's clothes. It is very easy for your child to pick up a fry, dip it in catsup and have some of the excess drip onto his clothes as the fry makes its way to his mouth.Fortunately, it is fairly easy to remove catsup or tomato stains on your baby's clothes. You simply need to have the right tools and the know-how.Here is how to remove catsup and tomato stains on your baby's clothes..What You Will Need..• Spoon or butter knife • Cold water • Liquid laundry detergent • white vinegar (may be used for white/colorfast clothing) • hydrogen peroxide(may be used for white/colorfast clothing) • lemon juice(may be used for white/colorfast clothing) • Stain remover • mild dish soap (may be used for oily stains).Start by removing as much of the catsup as you can from the garment. You can use a spoon or the back of a butter knife.Next, run the back of the stain under cold water as soon as possible.Running cold water through the back of the stain pushes the stain back out of the fabric.Conversely, running cold water through the front of the stain will push the stain more deeply into the fabric of the garment.Pour a small amount of baby-safe liquid detergent on to the stained area of the garment.Work it gently into the fabric in a circular motion starting on the outside of the stain. This will minimize spreading of the stain. If the stained garment is white or is colorfast, you can apply a small amount of mild bleach. You can use hydrogen peroxide or more natural bleaches such as white vinegar or lemon juice.Rinse thoroughly.Check if the stain is still present.Hold the garment up to the light to see if all the catsup is removed. If you can still see a hint of pink or brown, pour a small amount of detergent again and then follow that up by applying a mild bleaching agent.Next, apply a stain remover. You can use it in gel, spray or stick form.Let it sit for at least five minutes to give the stain remover time to really work into the fabric and break down the stain. After five minutes, wash the garment as you usually would.Always follow the care instructions. Before you pop the garment into the dryer, check the garment again to see if the stain still persists.Drying could set the stain which will be all but impossible to remove. If there still remains, rub detergent into the stain and then let it soak in warm water for 30 minutes.Rinse thoroughly. If the stain is completely gone, you can proceed with drying the garment. If not, apply stain remover again onto the fabric and then wash according to directions.
